FAQs
When will the play area refurbishment begin and when will it be completed?
A project programme has been developed and the refurbishment is planned to begin October 2023 and be completed in late 2023. The page will be updated as further details are confirmed and notices will be placed at the play area.
Will there be some access to the recreation ground during the refurbishment?
Access to some of the grassed area in the recreation ground is planned to be kept open and access will be available through the gated entrance on Eastworth Road (G1 on design plans). Please adhere to all safety notices and measures in place during the refurbishment.
Will there be parking provided for the play area?
There is some visitor parking on the highway within the new development, but there is no parking allocated to the play area. It is envisaged most people will be walking to the site from the surrounding estates.
Is there, or will there be, disabled parking?
We are looking at where we are able to influence this but it is outside of the project scope
Will the play area be accessible?
Yes, throughout the design we are considering how to make the play accessible for all, including those with disabilities.
Will the play equipment be sustainable?
Much of the equipment chosen is made from organic Robinia which is a strong and durable timber. Steel foundations will be used to ensure the longevity of the timber. The play equipment will be sourced from a UK-based company.
How will you protect wildlife?
We work as part of the Natural Environment Team and will consult our Ecology Unit prior to construction and take any necessary steps identified by them.
How will we keep local people informed on progress of the project?
We will post updates on this page, register to follow the project above. For any significant updates, a poster will be placed on site.
The butterfly wild meadow - is there going to be signage to explain to adults and children what the area is?
We hope to install some interpretation signage for this area.
Can the play area be made bigger?
A financial contribution was calculated for the upgrade of the existing LEAP. We are now working within the allocated budget to undertake this upgrade within the space available and with consideration for the whole communities’ views. If there is the budget and desire within the community to increase the number of pieces of equipment we will do so. We are also including opportunities for natural play.
You have indicated it is for under 11 years - but what about teenagers in the area?
The age range for the play equipment was considered during the early planning stages of Potters Wood development where the LEAP was first discussed and this is the age range agreed. We have tried to consider the whole community in the design.
