Community Connections

Learn more about the SBMP & projectSBMP Steering Group member Howard Davidson presents to the members of  Parkstone Yacht Club

Following on from a successful series of talks at local marinas and yacht clubs by members of the SBMP who are themselves boaters, we are once again offering the chance for your yacht or motorboat club, business or organisation to find out more about the project.  These talks have been described as informative and full of practical information about how boaters can support marine conservation so please do contact Project Officer Sara for more details and to book.  We can bring our display eco-mooring too!

    Seagrass Awareness Boards

In August 2024 the SBMP unveiled 8 navigation and seagrass awareness boards at marinas across the local area.

One of 8 new information boards, this one is installed at Cobbs Quay Marina

The boards help recreational boat users to identify the marine protected area, seagrass beds and voluntary no anchor zone (VNAZ) providing practical tips so everyone can navigate and minimise any damage through anchoring and have a greater understanding of where the 87 eco-moorings are located for public use.

Funded as part of the Marine Management Organisation's (MMO) FaSS grant awarded to the partnership in 2024, the design of the boards reflect those installed by the RYA's environment programme The Green Blue but on a local, Studland specific level.

The seagrass awareness boards have been installed at the following locations:

    Baiter Slipway, Harbourside Walk, Poole

    Salterns Marina, Poole

    Parkstone Yacht Club, Poole

    Port of Poole Marina

    Cobbs Quay Marina, Hamworthy

    Swanage Sailing Club

    boatfolk, Portland Marina

The SBMP thank all the teams at these locations for supporting the installation and helping us communicate why Studland seagrass is so vital to marine conservation on a local level!
